Song Chang-sik, a living legend in the music industry, who was interviewed for the first documentary about Kim Min-ki and his academic history, 'Kim Min-ki's Academic History and the Behind', reveals the story of how he was shocked after hearing Kim Min-ki's song.
'SBS Special – Hakjeon and the Behind the Scenes Kim Min-ki' is the first documentary that tells the story of Hakjeon, a leading figure in Korean culture and arts who created the musical 'Subway Line 1', and Kim Min-gi, the representative of Hakjeon, who has strictly pursued a life behind the scenes and refrained from appearing on broadcasts. This is a unique project that includes interviews with over 100 celebrities who willingly stepped in front of the camera for Kim Min-ki.
Part 1, which aired on the 21st, gave a moving remark as it looked back on the cultural value of the academy, which was unfortunately closed after 33 years, and the life of director Kim Min-ki, who devoted himself to it from behind the scenes. The first part of the broadcast ranked first among terrestrial broadcasters in its time slot with a nationwide viewership rating of 3.4% (based on Nielsen Korea), and the lingering influence of the broadcast is leading to a movement to 'remember school history'.
Part 2, which will be broadcast on the 28th, will cover the story of legendary musician Kim Min-ki. Musicians representing the Republic of Korea today, including Song Chang-sik, Cho Young-nam, Park Hak-gi, Na Yun-seon, Jang Pil-soon, Kang San-e, Yoon Do-hyun, and Jeong Jae-il, testify to the music and life of Kim Min-ki, the ‘musician’s musician’.
Many of the musicians interviewed revealed that it was an honor to perform at the school at the time. Among them, Yoon Do-hyun said, “The day before the performance at Hakjeon, I was so excited that I could barely sleep. I sang the loudest I've ever sung. It's no exaggeration to say that the YB I am today grew up at Hakjeon.” It reflects on the meaning of the academic history and conveys the influence of Kim Min-ki, who became their central point.
In addition, musicians who are receiving the title of 'genius' unanimously agree on Kim Min-ki's outstanding musicianship. First, Jeong Jae-il, the composer of the drama 'Squid Game', expressed his respect, saying, “I was extremely shocked when I first heard Mr. Min-ki Kim's song. Mr. Min-ki Kim is my musical father.” Furthermore, Song Chang-sik, who is known as the 'god of folk music' in name and reality, said, “When we first met, Min-ki Kim brought a song called 'Friend' and asked me to sing it. The song was very sophisticated. 'There are many people who write songs better than me.' “I thought,” he said, “I think Kim Min-ki was a genius.”
Meanwhile, on this day's broadcast, the story behind the historic meeting between Kim Min-gi and Cho Yong-pil will be revealed for the first time. The two were great masters who formed two huge mountain ranges in the Korean music world at the time, to the extent that there is a saying, 'Jo Yong-pil above the ground and Kim Min-gi below the ground.' Music critic Kang Heon, who was the one who arranged the meeting between the two, said, “It was a relationship that the two had never crossed paths with before. When I asked Cho Yong-pil, 'Do you know Kim Min-gi?', he replied, 'Why don't I know?' and 'I respect him.'” The two masters candidly reveal an anecdote from the night they sat down and had a drink together for the first time.
